Sea Buckthorn and birds - some observations

Tom Cooney

This paper will report on the relationship between birds on North Bull Island and the non-native and invasive Sea Buckthorn Hippophae rhamnoides. This shrub has expanded out to various part of the island from original plants on the boundaries of two golf courses. It spread threatens to encroach into grassland habitat used by ground nesting birds. A list of bird species proven to use this habitat for nesting a feeding will be presented.
